| .Lincoln, NE. -Tony Tabatabai kicked a 25-yard field goal in the third overtime to lead Lincoln East over Columbus 20-17 Thursday night at Seacrest Field. in front of 1,277 fans.
Earlier in the evening Tabatabai kicked a 20 yard field goal to get the Spartans on board. That would be the only scoring during regulation for the Spartans. Tabatabai's kicks were the tenth and eleventh field goal of the season tying him for the Class A record for most field goals in a single season.
The game winning kick was setup by a Casey Roberts fumble recovery when Columbus had their turn at the over-time try. Roberts had some very key tackles including a sack at the end of regulation that kept the Discoverers out of the end zone. Roberts also had some booming punts averaging 40 yards on seven kicks.
Defense was the name of the game for the Spartans this evening as they held Columbus with a first down on the sixth yard line as time was running down in the fourth quarter. Saul Bakewell again was the workhorse this evening carrying the ball 31 times mostly up the middle and making 97 yards.
The Spartans end the regular season with a 7-2 record and headed to the playoffs as the number six seed and most likely will play Bellevue East at Seacrest next Wednesday night. Columbus finished 5-4 and they too will head to the playoffs as the number twelve seed. Their opponent will most likely be Millard West.
