| Lincoln, NE. - Thursday night the Spartans had dominated most of the Grand Island game until Islanders drove 62 yards with 11 seconds remaining to gain a 14-9 victory over East before 1,354 fans.
Levi Stamer put Grand Island on the board in the first quarter with a 74 yard punt return. Spud Mann hit on two field goals on 30 yards and 29 yards to put the Spartans within striking distance. The big break for the Spartans came when Sam Poppe blocked a Grand Island punt and Devin Jamshidi recovereed the ball. Terrance Maahs guided the East squad down the field hitting on a a key 4th down pass to typer McManaman for an eight yard gain. The Spartans drive stalled and Spud Mann kicked a 29 yard field goal to give the them the lead.
East defense had only given up 50 yards the entire game when Grand Island drove the final 62 yards to give the Islanders the victory.
Dr. Kent Mann presented Matt and Joe Berans a check from the Grand Island community for the Brady Beran fund. The Grand Island cheerleaders and East cheerleaders met at the 50 yard line to give and receive a sign from the Grand Island school. Grand Island football players, John Gingery, Matt and Joe Beran exchanged wishes in a very emotional and classy exchange. Thank you Grand Island for your support.
