Lincoln, NE. - A crowd of 2,481 fans, including a many from the Spartan faithful showed up with Brady Bunch #48 shirts and the team had their #48 stickers for the helmet. The Spartans heart was to win the game for Brady however, in the end, those hearts were still broken and their minds were still focused on the recovery of their fulllback/ linebacker. The North Star Navigators rushed for 152 yards and completed a long 36 pass to set the Spartans back for the fourth time this season 12-0.
The game was not without it's casualties as senior linebacker Brent Gritton, a division one prospect, went down with an ankle injury. Even the fourth quarter became eerie as the public address announcer called for the rescue personnel , now stationed at Seacrest, to report the Spartan side of the stadium. As the Spartans were trying to generate a fourth quarter drive the fans were wondering what next.
First half miscues including two key running into the punter penalties, three turnovers and two more fumbles that stalled drives showed the game was not quite the most important thing on the Spartan minds. Both defenses put up a tough steel curtain and resulted in 13 punts for the game.
In the second half North Star switched to a power running set and found some success that lead to the games only two scores. While East was playing for Brady, North Star also dedicated the game to Ryan Pluta's dad who is battling cancer and was told the news on game day that he didn't have long to live. Pluta was responsible for batting down a key Spartan pass and he also stopped the Spartans on fourth down during a fourth quarter drive.
Coach Gingery quoted the Lincoln Journal Star by saying "We have to re-group to get where these kids are thinking straight. But, they all know that nothing matters if Brady Beran gets up and walks out that hospital room:."
