| Bellevue, NE. - Lincoln East traveled to Bellevue West and battled for three and and half quarters before the fourth ranked Thunderbirds closed out the Spartans 41-20. This was the second week in a row that the Spartans lead a ranked team in the second quarter .
Jim Epke lead the Spartans by putting up 379 yards of offense. Epke rushed 23 times for 203 yards and passed for another 171 yards. In the end , it was the East's defense that allowed over 480 yards of offense that doomed the Spartans. A couple of 4th and 1 situations deep in Thunderbird territory and three very long passes were the difference in the game. Tyler McManaman caught 6 passes for 136 yards and touchdown for the Spartans.
Silas Fluellen threw 5 touchdown passes for the game and his 11th in two games. Several times East had Bellevue West pinned deep for 3rd and over 20 situations, but miscues in the East defensive backfield lead to long gains and touchdowns.
Thursday the Spartans will face their third top ten opponent in three weeks when the Mustangs from Millard North bring their second ranked team to Seacrest. The Spartans have to trust their abilities and play with their hearts . Certainly the offense can play with any top ten team.
