Lincoln, NE - Lincoln East came out and took care of business when the Spartans went up on the Benson Bunnies 13-0 in the first quarter. Senior quarterback Jim Ebke rushed for 4 touchdowns and 206 yards as the Spartans beat the Bunnies 27-6.

For the second straight week the defense really bottled up Bunnies for only 153 total yards. Seniors Jake Wolf, Garek Petry and Cole Weihe lead the charge for the defense. Ebke and Justin Burns both intercepted the Benson quarterback during the game.

A stiff wind out of the south helped the Spartans get going in the first quarter with great field position. At times East played very well with some spectalor hitting and at other times they looked like they were ready to start Districts next week. Consistancy will have to get better in the next and coming weeks because the competition is goiing to get better with Columbus, Northeast, Norfolk and Southwest.

The seventh rated Spartans were able to accumulate 280 yards on the ground and only needed 45 yards passing. The Bunnies were held to only 11 yards passing. Levi Lash had his best outing with a 38.5 punting average, including two punts into a 20-30 mph wind. The Spartans had three fumbles and were able to get them all back. while Benson managed to get their lone fumble back. Many holding penalties by Benson were declined due to tackles for losses by the Spartan defensive front.

The Spartans are now 4-0 and off to their best start in many years. East will head to Columbus next Thursday to take on the Discoverer's. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
