Lincoln, NE - First play from scrimmage the Spartans go on top of Grand Island and never look back as they hand the Islanders a 35-6 loss. A total of 2,370 fans witnessed the East offensive line dominate Grand Island and revenge last season 42-0 defeat. The 2-0 Spartans are off to their best start in many years.

Jim Ebke finished with 98 yards rushing and 180 passing as the Spartans roll up 390 total yards on the Islanders. Justin Burns dazzled the crowd with his long touchdown catch, his interceptions and some exciting punt returns. Three touchdowns or 21 points was a theme of the week when East defeated Southeast 21-14, the junior varsity defeated Omaha Northwest 21-7, and the reserves beat Millard North 20-6. So, until Lash scored late in the third quarter the Spartans had stalled out on 21 again. The underclassmen have a new goal to shoot for this week.

Ebke would be the first on the field to commend his line play of Jake Wolf, Graham Thurber, Cole Weihe, Kacey Shen, Casey Shane, Jacob Swanson, Michael Yardley, Jason Moffatt, Dan Cramer and Brian Olson. The play of the line has created huge holes on offense and shut them down on defense.

Prior to this game many schools didn't know the capablilities of the Spartan receiving crew. Six  East receivers found the books this week as they rack up 180 yards and three touchdown receptions. Burns, Ravi Mahapatra, Andrew Peterson, Drew Sandkey, Michael Knott and Sam Meginnis have found the middle wide open when they have to deal with containing Ebke, Garek Petry and Levi Lash.

The play of linebackers Sam Meginnis, Petry, Steven Gawrick and corners Harry Meginnis, Matt Palm and Harry Meginnis have plugged and confused the opposition all season. Nobody gets to the corners this year on the Spartans.

For the first time in years the Spartans were able to empty the bench and play everyone. The attitude and winds at East High school have changed. Cross Country boys are ranked number 1 and girls number 3. Spartans are continuing to make some big time moves and the media is catching on. What's really neat is having been around these boys for many years they are humble kids. They are excited and will not get over confident. The understand where they've been and where they are going. They know how to GET ER DONE.
