Lincoln, NE - A crowd of 2,274 fans, mostly Spartans fans, witnessed a rejuvenated Lincoln High club ready to knock off the seventh ranked Spartans. The Spartans held a slim 7-3 lead and used a Coach John Gingery pep talk at halftime to spark a 21 point third quarter surge to beat Lincoln High 35-17.

The Spartans should know full well that a team with a 1-7 record could be building and ready to play. The Spartans blew out North Platte last season after an 0-8 start. That victory lead to this great season. East has played some really great football all season and a game of inches could have had them 9-0 so it's not hard to believe that Lincoln High could give problems for the Spartans. This was Lincoln High's senior night and their playoff game so to speak. It's the greatness of this Spartan team that held together as a team and came out of the locker room with fire in their eyes.

East marched down the field the first possession with Jim Ebke finishing off a drive with 9:02 to go in the third quarter, with a 2 yard run.  The next possession the Spartans completed a 44 yard pass from Ebke to Justin Burns to set up a Ebke to Ravi Mahapatra 15 yard scoring toss.  The third touchdown of the quarter came after a Levi Lash interception.  Four Spartan turnovers were very costly as Cody Fultz scooped up a fumble and rambled 64 yards for a Links third quarter score to make the game still in reach for Lincoln High.  Lincoln High sending the whole kitchen sink to stop the Spartan running game left the pass open to bring down the Links.  Ebke finished the game with 164 yards rushing on 20 carries and a touchdown, while completing 7 of 15 passes for 133 yards.

The Spartans need to eliminate the fumbles and interceptions and play as one united team as they prepare for the playoffs.    Norfolk will be looking the revenge one of their 4 losses against East next Friday in first round playoff competition.
