Lincoln, NE -Lncoln East had a commanding lead at the end of the third quarter 28-7 and some of the Spartan faithful had gone home when the Norfolk Panthers scored two early fourth quarter touchdowns to make the game 28-21.  With a little over five minutes to remain in the game, East punter Levi Lash punted to Norfolk 44 yard line but, the short punt hit a Panther player and Logan McClure pounced on it for the Spartans.  The Spartans finished off the Panthers with a Garek Petry 19 yard scamper off left tackle for a 35-21 victory over Norfolk .

The Class A No 8 Spartans moved to 6-1 and 2-1 in district play.  Norfolk fell to 4-3 and 1-2 in the district.  Norfolk held a first quarter lead when Brett Shively hit their big tight end Austin Wells at 6-4 and 250 pounds.   East settled down a capped a second quarter drive with a Jim Ebke 5 yard touchdown run.  Norfolk had decided to shut Ebke down with the run as he finished with 72 yards on 21 carries.  That’s when the Spartan offensive line went to work and the receiving team had a field day.  Ebke finished with 253 yards passing on 17-24 attempts.  Ravi Mahapatra, Drew Sankey, Justin Burns, Andrew Peterson, Sam Witherby, Levi Lash came up big for the Spartans on crucial third and fourth down catches.  Mahapatra lead the group with six catches for 80 yards.  Burns also had five catches for 59 yards. Ebke hit Andrew Peterson of a 38-yard strike and Lash on a 46-yard pass in the third quarter.

Shively , had a big day for the Panthers with 16 of 24 passes for 188 yards. The Spartans performance was a another gut check as they came back from a first quarter deficit and had to hold off the Panthers in the end. Then ,the Spartans finished the job by sticking another touchdown in the endzone to close the Panthers. Enough can not be said about the offensive line and defensive line performances of East. Their team play has made the difference of a 1-8 Spartan team versus 6-1 team. Next week the Spartans move on the play cross-town rival  Southwest  for an important game in the district.
