North Platte, NE - Lincoln East reached down deep and energized themselves to final put the Bulldogs away 20-3. North Platte is a tough place to play and with costly turnovers and mistakes by the sluggish Spartans , the Bulldogs lead early 3-0. North Platte held that lead until around the six minute mark of the second quarter.

Lincoln East shook off the long trip to North Platte and started moving the ball before halftime and took a 7-3 lead on a Jim Ebke 9 yard scamper. The defensive front of Cole Weihe, Jason Moffatt, Jake Wolf, Steve Garwick, Dan Cramer and Sam Meginnis really put the hammer to North Platte the rest of the evening. Excellent linebacker play from Garek Petry and corners Levi Lash, Ebke and Harry Meginnis held the Bulldogs to less than 60 yards of passing.

The senior leadership rose to the occasion when the East High parents formed a tunnel for them to prepare for the second half. The Spartan momentum began with excellent defensive play and Garek Petry's 4 yard touchdown run to gain a cushion at 13-3. Then, another lightning delay occurred with 8:00 minutes to go in the third quarter. This was the second delay of the season for the Spartans.due to lightning. Just like the game against Southeast the Spartans came out and dominated the Bulldogs after the game resumed. The Spartans drove down the field and put the game out of reach with a Jim Ebke 1 yard run.

The Lincoln East football team is growing weekly. It is very hard to travel 3 1/2 hours west and get up to play a football game against a highly spirted group such as North Platte. East did not panic and the leadership stepped forward and got the job done. Hats off to a super defense and an offense that found a way to win. Next up for the Spartans are the Bunnies from Benson. I don't think we have to worry about the Spartans taking a game lightly again. You work hard, you win. You don't, you lose. I think this Spartan team enjoys winning to much to have a let down.
