Kearney, NE - Kearney Bearcats scored early and scored often during a 44-7 homecoming win over the Spartans. The game seemed like a re-run of most of the games played this fall. East took the opening kickoff and marched down the field and with momentum on their side. The coaches headphones were cut off due interference of a cell tower in the endzone and the Spartans drive was shutdown.

Kearney had a two score pop when Jordan Moncrief hit Zach Albrecht for a 6 yard touchdown on their opening drive. East threw an interception on the next possession and Vinny Molina did not take any time scampering 17 yards to give Kearney a 14-0 lead. Spartans defensive line and linebackers shut down the Bearcats but, with 22 seconds left in the half, Kearney's Moncrief scored on a 1-yard run after converting on a third and 20 pass.

East dominated most of the third quarter as the Spartans defense shutdown the Bearcats and the Spartan offense started to roll. Scott Sunderman hit Jeff Morrison for a 35 yard pass play and ended on the Kearney 12. East failed to score that possession but, the defense was fired up and stalled the next Bearcat drive. East's possession marched down the field and Sunderman found Tyson Clark for a spectacular touchdown pass and catch. The score was 21-7 with 3:15 to go in the third quarter and the Spartans were still breathing.

A Moncrief sweep to the right was inches from a tackle for loss, but turned into a familar poor tackling romp for a 70 yard touchdown. Kearney used a couple of East turnovers to turn the lights out on the Spartans. Kearney is now 4-2 overall and 1-1 in district play and won a pivotal game toward a birth in the state playoffs. East will return home to take on a 2-4 Norfolk team that has shown some of the same problems the Spartans have endured all season.
