North Platte, NE - East Spartans left false hopes with North Platte when they left town and headed back down I-80 with their tails between their legs. The Bulldogs in front of a sizeable home crowd tromped the Spartans 49-14.
The Spartans came out of the bus and drove down the field only to be stopped for the second straight game inside the red zone. The missed field goal send the Spartans into a tailspin as North Platte established control of the game with long runs that resulted in a 14-0 first quarter score. East, however played the best football, or the only football of the season the next 7 minutes. A 33 yard pass from Scott Sunderman to Jeff Morrison left 2 yards to go for the touchdown. Aaron Kilgore capped off the drive with a 2 yard reception for the first Spartan touchdown of the sesaon. The defense came out and played 2007 football and stopped North Platte on the next 3 plays forcing a punt. When you pressure teams you cause the opponents to make mistakes. A bad snap lead to a despiration throw and a turnover on downs. East did not waste time moving the ball down the field with Christian Schmohr finishing the final 4 yards for the Spartan touchdown to make the score 14-14.
The Spartans had gain momentum and were starting to believe in themselves, when North Platte marched down field to score with seconds left in the half, to go ahead 21-14. East had to kickoff to North Platte to start the second half and the game was over when the Bulldogs scored 35 unanswered points and the 4th quarter clock did not stop.
