Norfolk - The Spartans arrived in Norfolk to play some football on a nice fall evening, before a cold front and Norfolk rolled over Memorial field to shut down East 27-6.  Temperatures to start the game were in the 50's and by half time, a gusty 25-30 mph wind lowered the temperatures to 37 and blowing snow.

Norfolk used 10 plays to move the ball the other direction and on 4th and 2 from the East 12 yard line, Colton Wolinski came up with a big tackle on Tyson McGill to get the ball back for the Spartans.  A substitution infraction put the East on the heels and went three plays and out.  A short punt of 23 yards gave the ball back to Norfolk on the East 33 yard line.  Levi Johnson quickly put the Panthers on the scoreboard with 1:22 in the quarter on a three yard plunge over right end.  The extra point was good and Norfolk led after one quarter 7-0.

It appeared to be a repeat series when East when 3 and out and punted to Norfolk to start their next possession at the East 44 yard line. Jared Nelson returned for his first game since Millard South and made some noise for the Spartans when he picked off Brady Lollman and returned the interception to the East 46 yard line.  Momentum was gathering for the Spartans and in six plays Bostwick ran for 31 yards and passed 15 to Nick Kohler to set up a fumbled snap run by Bostwick for the 6 yard touchdown.  Kohler made the kick but, the officials called an illegal formation penalty and the Spartans were moved back 5 yards.  The kick was big because it popped any momentum East had gained during the drive. East trailed the Panther 7-6 at that point.

Norfolk was guilty of an illegal block in the back penalty on the kickoff and East had the Panthers pinned on the Panther 12 yard line. Quarterback Lollman, who finished the game with 87 yards on 15 carries, drove down the field with a sustained drive taking 14 plays and 4:23 of clock.  Lollman polished of the final 15 yards for the touchdown to take a 14-6 lead.  Norfork stopped East on yet another 3 and out situation to get the ball back before half.  Lollman used his arm on this drive to complete a 9 play drive to score with 1:53 to go in the half.  Tyson McGill rushed the final yard to give the Panthers a 21-6 halftime lead.

Winter arrived in time for the second half and both defenses shut each other out in the third quarter.  Pete Meginnis recovered a Norfork fumble during the period.   In the fourth quarter Lollman directed his Panthers on a 10 play, 81 yard drive before he scored his second touchdown of the game from 17 yards out.   That was the end of the scoring for the game as Norfolk lead 27-6.   Meginnis recovered his second fumble in the fourth period and Bostwick threw his second interception of the game.  Spartans had twenty-one tacklers in the game including a game high of 8 by safety Justin Hill.  Brandon Ell, a cornerback was responsible for 7 tackles.

East has had some great individual highlights on the season but, penalties, errors, concentration and teamwork has shut down the Spartans in each of the last three games. Norfolk was the fifth rated team in the state that East has played.  Things do not get any easier as they meet 6-1 third ranked Southeast next week.  Southeast is coming off victories over Elkhorn and Southwest.  Norfolk has been the only blemish on the Knights record. Southeast rival had a 20 year win streak over East before the East 2006 squad snapped the streak. Since 2006, East has won three straight and the Spartans should be looking to spoil the Knights season.
